Music To Describe Pictures in Year 3

Year 3 have been doing some great work in their last unit, learning all about how music can describe places, people and feelings. In their final task, they were given a picture and had to work together in a group to create music that described it.

This video shows some examples of their work, how do you think they got on?

Year 3 Chinese Drumming

Year 3 have been having a great time in music lessons learning about Chinese Drumming. We learnt about the importance of performing together in time with a beat and how we need to count in our head so we don't lose our place. Each class put together a performance made up of different sections that we had to memorise and then perform. This video shows half of 3M doing a super job, see what you think.

Do they look similar to other instruments you know?

Year 3 - Painting with Sound

In Year 3 we have been learning about how music can describe pictures, places or feelings. We've listened to different music and thought about what it made us imagine and why. We then thought about how the composers managed to make us imagine these things. We learnt about some important musical words including 'dynamics', 'tempo', 'pitch' and 'timbre'. Then in groups and as a whole class we created music to describe different pictures. This is a video of some of the work we did as a whole class.

Painting with Sound in Year 3

In Year 3 we are learning about how music can paint pictures in our minds and help us to imagine all kinds of things.

We listened to a very dramatic piece of music, 'Night on a Bare Mountain' by Modest Mussorgsky, we let our imaginations run wild and then, as we listened, we drew pictures of the things that came into our heads. Take a look at the video to see some of the ideas 3T and 3J had.
