Ukulele Songs Term 1

Here are songs that we are working on in Ukulele Ensemble for those students to practice at home. Also, this is a great website for students who are beginning to learn ukulele.

In "This Little Light of Mine," you will need to inquire about how to play the Uke II part. You will find the resources below beneficial.

Summer Concert - A Night At The Movies

The Summer Music Concert this year has a film theme with music from movies including Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Annie and many more.

Performances will come from the Junior and Senior Choirs, Orchestra, Ukulele Club and Chinese Drummers. The all important date is Tuesday 9th June, beginning at 6:30pm on the school playground, performers will be receiving more detailed information soon. See you there!

Ukulele Club - Indiana Jones

Ukulele Club - James Bond Theme

In Ukulele Club we have started learning the James Bond Theme song. It's pretty tricky but is going to sound great when we've got it! Here's a recording of it for you to practice playing along with at home.

Christmas Carol Concert

A huge well done to all who performed at the Carol Concert on Tuesday. Senior Choir, Junior Choir and Ukulele Club all did a fantastic job and it was a wonderful event. Take a look at this video of some photos of you all looking fabulously Christmassy!

Christmas Carol Concert

Our Carol Concert this year is on Tuesday 16th December, starting at 6:30pm. Held on the school playground, it should be a great festive occasion with performances by both junior and senior choirs as well as our ukulele group. Refreshments will be available after the performance.

Children performing at the concert should come to the music room at 6pm wearing smart school uniform. The performance should last around 40 minutes. I look forward to seeing you there!

Performances at the School Fayre

I hope you're very excited about the School Fayre coming up on Saturday! This year it has a medieval theme - I'm looking forward to some fabulous costumes. I'm also looking forward to the musical performances by ukulele club and senior choir. All children involved in these two groups should come straight to the music room at 1:00 ready for our performances which begin at 1:20. Don't be late or you may miss it - see you there!

Ukulele Club - Greensleeves

Here's a video of ukulele club practicing the song 'Greensleeves'. They've made great progress so far but can you see or hear any ways it could still be improved?

Here, as promised is a recording of the song Greensleeves that the Ukulele club will be playing at the Medieval themed school fayre. It's tricky so get practising.

The strumming pattern I'm doing is Down, down up down up; Down, down up down up (if that makes sense!) Listen to it and you'll get the hang of it I'm sure.

October 5th - The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain Concert - a very entertaining group of ukulele players from the UK perform with a chance for you to play along with them (click read more to watch one of their videos)

Sha Tin Junior School Arts Day

It's been a busy few weeks in the music department recently, so I've only just got round to posting about the fabulous trip that the Ukulele club and Chinese Drumming clubs went on two weeks ago on Friday 6th June. This is an event that CWBS supports every year and it was a pleasure to watch talented groups from other schools perform. Our drummers and ukulele-ists did us proud again with very professional performances.

Summer Music Concert

A huge well done to everyone who performed at the Summer Music Concert last Tuesday - I thought you were all fantastic. It was great to see how confident and talented you all are and even better that you did it with a smile on your face!

Strum One Strum All!

This Saturday there is a community Ukulele event happening at South Island School. Some of you keen ukulele players might like to go along if possible.

Performing Arts Day

On Friday 25 CWBS students from the  ukulele club and senior choir went with me, Ms Ross and Ms Lam to Kowloon Junior School for the ESF Performing Arts Day 2014. We had a great day watching groups from different ESF schools perform in all kinds of different ways and we got to perform 2 songs we've been working on.

All the children were a great credit to CWBS, participating with enthusiasm, confidence and a real sense of enjoyment. Take a look at the videos and photos below to see what we got up to.
