Musician of the Month - October

Wow, it's a new month already!

October will be a chance for you to get to know someone known as the First Lady of Jazz - the great Ella Fitzgerald. Not only was she a trailblazer as a black woman, she became a household name due to her playful exploration of music. Check out the videos below to see how she tried out so many fun and unique ways of using her voice as her instrument.

Ella Fitzgerald  (April 25, 1917 – June 15, 1996)
Ella was born on April 25, 1917, in Newport News, Virginia.

She was an American jazz singer, often referred to as the “ First Lady of Song”.
Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century.
Her voice was flexible, wide-ranging, accurate and ageless. She could sing sultry ballads, sweet jazz and imitate every instrument in an orchestra.
Fitzgerald made her most important amateur singing debut at age 17, in one of the earliest of the famous Amateur Nights at the Apollo Theater.
Fitzgerald won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums.
